Huawei Mate X is Finally Coming on November 15th for $2,400

Huawei’s folding smartphone, which Huawei had unveiled in Mobile World Congress 2019, is finally coming. The folding phone is called Huawei Mate X has a folding display that, when unfolded, becomes a tablet. The phone was delayed twice this year due to various reasons. But finally, the phone is ready to be shipped, but don’t get excited yet because Huawei has decided to make this phone available in China for now.

Samsungs folding device, Galaxy Fold, has been available for consumers for a few months now despite being unveiled during the same period. The phone will be available for ¥16,999 in China, which, if converted to the US dollar, gives us a price tag of ~$2,400. For comparison, Samsung Galaxy Fold is available for $1,980 in the USA. The already expensive Galaxy Fold looks cheaper when compared to the Mate X by Huawei.

The Mate X comes with an outward folding display, unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, which folds inward. In my honest opinion, the inward folding display from Samsung is a better implementation as it will prevent from getting scratched. The folding displays are made of flexible OLED panels and prone to scratches. The good thing with Mate X is that with the phone, buyers will also get a ¥2,699 or ~$380 free screen repair service.

Buyers in China will be able to buy Huawei Mate X folding devices from November 15th this year. There is no update as to when and if Huawei will bring the phone to buyers in other countries. To address Mate X’s international release strategy, Huawei said it is reviewing whether to bring the phone internationally or not. It is here worth noting that amid the USA sanction on Huawei, it is becoming hard for Huawei to sell its products and service in the international market. Maybe that is the reason why Huawei decided to shift focus to its home market than launching in other countries.

Huawei Mate X packs some powerful specifications. Mate X is a 5G enabled device with 8GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and latest Kirin 980 CPU. This large device houses a decent 4,500 mAh battery, which will be enough to last a day.

It has a three-camera setup at the back, which will also act as the front-facing camera. The camera sensor is a 40 MP wide-angle lens along with 16 MP ultra-wide lens and 8 MP telephoto lens. Pretty standard camera setup, I would say.

I am honestly very excited about this phone. No, I am not buying the phone, I don’t think I can even if I wanted to. But I am excited about the technology. The more company follow this trend, the more innovation we will see, and I am excited about that. So, what is your opinion on this phone? Do you think folding devices have any future or just a short trend that will die in a couple of years? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
